Become the Hero of your Own Story.
Dean is a detective at heart. The more difficult it is to figure out building complexities, the more it ignites his passion and technical skills to find the problem areas. His 21 years of hands-on experience, extensive training, and intensive study on home and its effects on health became a passion when mold affected his own family’s home and health. So this is not just a job but a passion as he helps guide others to answers on their own home and mold.

Due to this, our goal at Manage Mold is for people to  thrive in their own homes without the fear of wondering if their homes are causing someone's health to be negatively affected. We want to provide information so that best decisions can be made about what needs to be done to find, fix, the issues. Then we want to guide you to information on how to keep it “clean & dry" to prevent mold before it starts.  We love when homeowners save time and money by not wasting it on products that do not work or remediation that wasn't effective.  Our Manage Mold passion to train, educate, and guide.

Dean shares his family's mold story on the first episode of the
Manage Mold podcast... tune in to hear the whole story.

If we could do it, you can too!
Hey there! This is Isaiah Mahlstedt, the guy with the grey shirt and the vest in the picture above. Now, this isn’t my page, but I wanted to introduce it to you by telling you the story - alright, the short version - behind why Dad created Manage Mold.

For as long as I can remember, my parents, Dean and Lorna Mahlstedt, have owned a local business focused on providing the best results and customer experience in the Cleaning and Restoration Industry. Water Damage, Fire Damage, Janitorial Cleaning, Commercial Floor Care, Carpet Cleaning, and yes, Mold Remediation.

As we kids grew up, we got the amazing opportunity to work (and learn) in the business. Life was pretty normal (at least, as far as normal goes!) until everything changed for us in July of 2012.

To make a really long story short, we discovered that all of us had Lyme Disease, complicated by multiple areas of mold hiding in our house. Suddenly, our family’s top priority was to get our home - and ourselves - healthy again.

That started a journey of discovery. How could we more reliably discover where mold was hiding, both in our house and our client's? What was the best process to safely and effectively remove the contamination? And how could we prevent it from happening again in the future?

I was amazed as I saw Dad and Mom work as a team. Mom went to work to get US healthy again, while Dad dove deep into studying, getting certifications, and helping many other families discover and fix the mold issues in their homes that were affecting their health.

What we have come to realize is that there is a growing problem. More and more, we run into families that suspect mold in their homes or workplaces is leading to health issues. However, there is so much noise, hype, and conflicting information out there regarding to mold and its effects on the health of the home, we realized that we have to speak up.

So if you are tired of trying to figure out who or what to believe, and want the real answers about mold, you are in the right place. Manage Mold is here to be a resource, a guide to give you the information and inspiration you need to overcome whatever challenges you are facing on your journey to a healthy home.

Listen to the interviews and information on the podcast.  Join the Manage Mold group and share your story:  Where you’ve been, what you are currently going through, and where you want to end up.

I KNOW having a home that makes you sick is miserable. Our whole family went through that!

However, I am grateful for how my parents focused on finding solutions and doing whatever it took to get us - and our home - healthy.

If we could do it, you can too. We’re with you on your journey.

You’ve got this.

The Mama...
Lorna
There are so many challenges that a family can face.  When it comes to health and not having a place to rest and heal,  a fear wells up inside.  This is what I experienced.  I had this gut sense that something was wrong with our health and home.  But the problem was that I couldn't see what it was.  How can you defend against an enemy that you can't see to fight?

In my crazy days of Lyme and Mold toxicity, I couldn't function. I actually thought I was dying. I struggled with the idea that this was it. That there was nothing else better that I could do with my life. But I was determined to fight and find answers.

In all my searching, seeking, not giving up to find help... I finally found paths that worked for my family. The key to our answers was not one thing. It was like a tool box of tools. I needed different people (tools) to help get my family through different steps. Now I refer to these resources as my tool box.
Kind of like a hammer isn't used for everything in a construction project... you need pliers, saws, screw drivers, and others.

I find this concept true in life.  We all need our different tools to come in and help complete our goal or project.  Have you figured out what tools you need in your toolbox?  To be there ready when you need them?

When we are prepared, then we know what to do and where to go when something happens. We know which tool in the tool box we will reach for. Think through what tools you are missing. Then figure out how to get those tools so they are ready to use when you need them.

But one of the keys things I have learned is that even though we all need a tool box full of resources... the tool we might each choose to use may differ.

And everyone has a different path to healing, a different journey that they will walk.

Therefore my answers may not be your answers for your journey. But we all need encouragement and hope.

I believe in you and your journey.  I can't walk it for you.  It is not going to be easy.  I may even disappoint you because I may not be able to do or be all that you want.

But what I found is our struggles grow us.  They make us stronger and able to overcome each obstacle in our journey!
